Ranthambhor Fort
The history of the area Sawai Madhopur revolves round the Ranthambhor
Fort. Surrounded by the Vindhyas and Aravalis, amidst vast arid
denuded tracts of Rajasthan, lies the oasis of bio- mass in an ecological
desert, the Great Ranthambhor. No one knows exactly when this fort
was built. The most eminent ruler of the fort was Rao Hamir who
ruled around 1296 AD.
There are various places of historical interest inside the fort
namely
Toran Dwar, Mahadeo Chhatri, Sameton Ki Haveli, 32-pillared Chhatri,
Mosque and the Ganesh temple, the biggest attraction of the fort.

Siwad
40 km. from Sawai Madhopur and 3 km. from Isarda Railway Station
is village Siwad where Dushmeshwar Mahadeo temple dedicated to Lord
Shiva is situ- ated.
Rameshwaram
60 km. On the confluence of the Banas and Chambal rivers is Rameshwaram.
It has a beautiful Shiva temple.

On the way to Ranthambhor Na tional Park, a place nestling in the
high hills is Amareshwar Mahadeo temple.
Khandar Fort
25 km. The imposing Khandar Fort is worth seeing.

25 km. Situated on a hill near Chauth Ka Barwara town. A famous

Karauli
Famous for its red sandstone, Karauli is situated in the eastern
part of Sawai Madhopur, away from the hustle-bustle of modern life.
The majestic Durbar Hall with its delicate stone carvings and exquisite
medieval frescoes are worth seeing.

Kaila Devi 's (Mother Goddess) temple is situated about 23 km. from
Karauli. The colourful Kaila Devi fair takes place in the months
of March-April and September- October.

dedicated to Shri Mahaveerji, the 24th tirthankar of Jainism.
